The Columbus Firecracker 5k returns
for a third running this year. It is again brought to
you by the experienced runners of the Saluda Running Club -- the same
folks who previously sponsored the Coon Dog Day 5k.
Starting time is 8:00 a.m., Thursday, July 4, 2013, at the Columbus,
NC. Town Office, and will be run over a 5k course with
professional timing.
Trophies will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group for both male and female.
There will also be a special $100 award for any male who breaks the previous
course record of 15:13.2 set by Charles Ware, and a $100 award will be
given to any female who breaks the course record of 18:49 set by
Katie Gibson.The prizes will be awarded to the single best record
breaking time in both the
male and female category.
New this year will be a
Family registration category to make
family participation more affordable. You'll find details on the
Registration page.
The Firecracker 5k is a major event in the town of Columbus
Fabulous 4th celebration, but there will also be many other fun
activities for runners and their families. Activities beginning after
the race include family games, craft vendors, and food vendors. Music begins in the afternoon and continues until the fireworks
display at 9:45 p.m.
Race proceeds help fund The Shepherds Feast, a Christmas dinner held at
the Polk County Middle School that shares the Christmas spirit with the
citizens of Polk County.
